      Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

      It's useful for any job that intends to take any sort of physical damage. The bulk of mobs in FFXI deal out physical damage, so if you are on the front line or soloing, it's not a bad item to have onhand(no pun intended). I use it with soloing in conjuntion with an Umbra cape, and they work out pretty well when combined with Phalanx, Stoneskin, and Utsusemi. To put it another way, RDM already gets a natural M.Def bonus, so it sort of offsets the Magical damage + penalty the ring offers. Since we get no natural Defense bonus, the Physical damage - is welcome. I haven't thought of any better alternatives, and I don't know how necessary it is, but it's good to have for soloing if you can get one.

        As a Rdm im a master of hate gaining, becouse i static they want me to skill up for the maat fight in fight and do enfeebling, refreshing, hasting, dark, healing, so i pull alot of hate, so i thought if i take a lot lot of physical damage this would useful

          A Jelly Ring can be useful for RDM, but I wouldn't necessarily say you have to get it right as soon as you can equip it (unless you can do so with minimal trouble, at which point, have at it).

          I'll definitely be camping one later on in my RDM career.

            It wont hurt having it, so you should get it and try it out and see if it works for you, -25% damage taken (with Earth Staff) would rock in those situations.

              You gain hate just by doing that stuff? What kind of tank are you using? >.>;

              And to answer your question: Yep, Jelly ring is a great thing to have ((Or so I hear)) I'll be getting it soon myself. How could -5% Physical Damage hurt when you're farming, soloing, etc. . .
              "Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're Mad."
              "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
              "You must be", said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

              Welcome to Alice in FFXI =P

                Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

                In the normal PT situation, doing all of what you mentioned shouldn't really get you enough hate to merit getting the ring (solely on that basis). Numerically, stray hits that come your way will do around 100-200 damage depending on the level of your enemy and its strength. The ring will (if you're using it solely) reduce that by about 5-10 damage, which is 6 seconds' worth of a Regen (15MP for 120~hp).

                So no, I can't really say that it would help a great deal, especially since it requires either your anticipation of knowing the monster is about to attack you (to swap out), or keeping it equipped full-time, in which case you're missing out on other more useful rings.

                For the Maat fight all you really need is elemental skill and enfeebling skill. Cure IV maxes out for you well before 70 and if he misses you it won't be because of your evasion, but because of a fluke. Darkness skill is bogus as well, since you won't be draining or aspiring him at all. (read: no subjob)

                Jelly ring is great for solo, though. If you're trying a challenging monster, it's a good method of increasing longevity. Also, if you're attempting sleepnuking techniques against hard monsters, it does a pretty great job of conserving mp for stoneskin.

                  How can you even say this with a straight face at level 62?

                  becouse i static they want me to skill up for the maat fight in fight and do enfeebling, refreshing, hasting, dark, healing, so i pull alot of hate, so i thought if i take a lot lot of physical damage this would useful
                  - Enfeebling generates minimal hate, aside from Sleeps and Bind.
                  - Refreshing generate almost no hate.
                  - Haste generates almost no hate.
                  - Dark Magic... er... what is this skill again? I don't think I've cast a dark magic spell in an XP party environment in the last 30 levels (I'd case Drain and Aspir, but I never really sub BLM anymore). In any case, Aspir, Drain, and Bio I/II generate only minimal hate for the damage they deal. Of the Dark Magic spells, only Stun produces appreciable amounts, and you won't have access to that until level 74 and only when using /DRK.
                  - If you're pulling too much hate when healing... psst! RDMs can wear Crow gear. Macro it in and watch your hate levels drop. And if that still doesn't work, then break your static and go find people who actually know what they're doing, because you should never be able to pull hate in an XP party just by healing when things are going right.

                  Seriously, a Jelly Ring isn't going to save you when a monster is beating on you. It reduces physical damage by 4.77%.

                  Unless you solo a lot, a Jelly Ring isn't going to help you at all, unless you happen to be so fast with your reflexes that you're able to swap it in before you get hit on those rare occasions when you might pull hate.

                    Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

                    sometimes when you tank, anything that minus damage are good. Stack them up together with stoneskin and phalanx and there you go.

                    But really, pulling hate as Rdm is pretty rare. Unless you're the main healer healing a War tank...

                      Only time I pull hate in an xp situation is when I really really go out of my way to do so. Only way I deliberately do so now is CS/Stun...

                        Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

                        Oh its quite useful.

                        But luxury imo, for mages.

                        If you make a macro for when you get hate, you will most probably benefit from a jelly ring.

                        Lets say for example the tank died, or you grabbed alot of hate for some reason (things happen), or you want to solo, use that macro..

                        /equip earth staff, jelly ring, amongst other stuff, like for example a good defensive armor for your job. Its highly overlooked, and can save you.

                          Re: Info {Can I Have It?}

                          You'd be better off just putting up Blink and Stoneskin. If you do pull hate for spamming Cure IV (nothing else should generate enough hate) it should only be for an attack or 2. You'd be much better off with MP, INT or MND rings and just using you're spells to get rid of the damage. Even Phalanx should take off more damage than a Jelly Ring.

                            While I don't disagree with this point, there is the fact that you don't have to choose one or the other. You can have both Phalanx up and a Jelly Ring.

                            I wouldn't really advocate it's use for party play (although I wouldn't rule it out, either, because you just never know), but I think for solo it can be pretty handy.

                              we dont have a full static yet so we dont have a tank and the tanks we get most of the time are Pld and they are all dull to me as they never try to self cure so the Whm runs out i take over curing when he rests, i run out of MP so i convert Cure IVx2 myself and continue curing. (sorry if any of you are a Pld i just get bad like)
